TOUR B - KGALAGADI TRANSFRONTIER PARK – 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS

KALAHARI EXCLUSIVE WILDERNESS SAFARI
ACCOMMODATION: KALAHARI WILDERNESS CAMPS

exclusive small and private camps with a waterhole visible from the camp.

Safari – Day 1
Upington – Kgalagadi (250 km) – Wilderness Camps (Kielie Krankie)

We leave Upington 8h00 in the morning to drive to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

We stop en route at the Norokei Salt Pans (natural salt mine).

After the short Salt Pans stop, we drive to our next destination, the Khomani San Bushmen, in the dry Molopo river-bed, where original hand-made Artworks can be bought. Your journey will then continue until one of the following Wilderness Camps:

Kalahari Tented Camp, Kielie Krankie or Urikaruus .

The camp are not fenced, allowing you to feel at one with the Kalahari and it’s wildlife. Be prepared to experience the wide variety of wild life that the Park has to offer, like the “King of the Kalahari”- the Gemsbok – silhouetted against a backdrop of red dunes or maybe the Kalahari Lion searching with its pale, yellow eyes…

Other animals found in the Kalahari are the cheetah, leopard, spotted – and elusive brown hyena, aardwolf, and the beloved “Little People” of the Bushmen, the Meerkats…

The park boasts with 264 bird species, including the world’s heaviest flying bird, the Kori Bustard. Also present is the Martial Eagle, the largest eagle in Africa. We will also study the fascinating “sociable weaver” birds, with their huge nests balanced precariously from a branch of the Camel thorn tree.

A traditional “Kalahari – Steak” will be prepared on the fire for dinner, together with a sun downer with wine produced on the banks of the Orange (Gariep) River. (We also cater for vegetarians)

You have a magnificent view of a waterhole, and after dark we have a strong spotlight to investigate the secret sounds of the night…

If we are very lucky, we will be serenaded by the haunting cries of the black-backed jackal.

Overnight: Kielie Krankie

Lunch at Molopo Restaurand (Excluded)

Safaris – Day 2 and 3
Wilderness Camps (Kalahari Tented Camp)

After waking up at first light we start our game-drive along the riverbed and the water holes to discover the fascinating flora and fauna of the Park. Your guide has a deep love and respect for this semi-desert and will share with you his comprehensive knowledge of the Kgalagadi – from the tiniest barking gecko to the lumbering giraffe, to the deadly polyclada beetle used by the Bushmen for their arrows, or the life-giving tsamma-melons, or the explosion of yellow colours coming from the Devils Thorn flowers…

On the road, we stop at one of the picnic areas for a refreshing drink under the trees. Full of energy, we will then continue our game-drive through the dunes – where spectacular red-sand landscapes await you. We will read the signs left by animals in the sand roads of the Kalahari and watch the behavior of the springboks, maybe they will tell us with their joyful jumping that the life-saving rains are coming…

Dinner under the stars.

Overnight: Kalahari Camp

Meals: B, L, D

Safari – Day 4
Wilderness Camps – Twee Rivieren – Upington (250km)

After breakfast, we break up camp and continue our safari for new discoveries along the dry Nossob- or Aub riverbeds. Your guide will explain to you the special plant and animal adaptations of the Kalahari Thirstland.

As usual, don’t hesitate to ask him to stop whenever a good opportunity for photography occurs. At around midday we will take a break at an unfenced picnic spot. Even here, some wildlife surprises might await you! The safari will then continue in the direction of Twee Rivieren. After freshening up, we depart on the scenic road back to Upington.
