Table Mountain has always held a fascination with humans. The early European explorers saw it as a magnetic beacon drawing them in. the original inhabitants of the cape, the Khoi-San believed Table Mountain had magical powers and worshipped it. Even to this day, thousands of tourists visiting Cape Town have Table Mountain highest on their list of things-to-do.

This 1087 meter high mountain gets its name from the incredibly flat top and from the cloud that forms a blanket over top like a table cloth when the strong south east wind blows. A beautiful sight, but risky business when hiking, especially if you don’t know the mountain. Many a hiker have gotten lost and fallen to their death while walking on the mountain.

Of the over 100 routes up Table Mountain, Cape Xtreme uses 2. Platteklip Gorge (front Table Mountain) and Skeleton Gorge (back Table Mountain).

Table Mountain Hike Itinerary:

Platteklip Gorge:

The hike begins from the contour road above the city centre. You then wind your way up the front of the mountain stopping regularly along the way to take in the amazing views of the city and Table Bay. As we make our way to the top you will notice how the vegetation changes along the way, a beautiful feature of the hike. Once at the top we amble around taking in the breath taking views. You can then decide to either to hike down the same route or go down with the cable way.
