Shark Cage Diving Itinerary PDF Print E-mail
Guests will have access to all areas on the cruiser as well as exclusive use of shower facilities. Towels will be provided for use on cruiser. A hostess will be on board to attend to your every comfort.

05h00 - 06H00 Guests will be collected by Mercedes Sprinter 18 seater or Hi Ace 16 seater courtesy bus at the respective Hotels. The pick up could involve a number of stops before the bus leaves Cape Town. Please feel free to enquire about more comfortable transfer options e.g.. Private chauffeur driven vehicle or helicopter. This will be at your own expense. We will contact you the evening before the trip to inform you of expected weather conditions and a more definite time of pick up. There is no discount for guests who drive themselves and if they choose to do so, should arrive at 13 Main Street, Gansbaai at 07h30. Gansbaai is 170km from Cape Town, a two hour drive and 98km from the Southern Most tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas. A map is available on request.

On arrival at 07h30, your hosts will be waiting to welcome you to a scrumptious breakfast served in farmhouse style. Menu: orange juice, yoghurt, eggs, grilled sausage, cold meats, cheese, toast, crumpets, croissants, muffins, muesli, fresh fruits, tea or coffee. Your hostess will brief you on the day’s events as well as answer any questions you may have. She will present you with a Shark Workbook by Dr Erich Ritter, to help you identify certain shark behavior patterns. The cruiser will leave at 08h15 on a 30 minute trip to the famous Dyer Island area. Time spent on board will be 4 to 5 hours. A fruit and snack basket is available on board as well as soft drinks, mineral water, tea and coffee.

All diving gear is supplied. A spacious 6 man cage is available for underwater viewing. Snorkeling is by far the best way of doing it, as some sharks are scared off by the sound and sight of scuba bubbles. Scuba divers should produce their dive cards. Viewing from the observation deck is normally excellent.

Education and information regarding the Geyser and Dyer Island Nature Reserve, which protects the sensitive marine life, as well as the known facts regarding social habits, body temperature, hunting strategies, attack on humans and behavioral patterns of “Carcharodon Carcharias” the Great White Shark, will be given on board by our host who is also our resident Satour Tour Guide. On board we have English, Afrikaans and Xhosa speaking crew members.

At the end of the trip the skipper will take you through the famous “Shark Alley” (sea conditions permitting) to view the 60,000 Cape Fur Seals & other species of bird life on the islands. Whales and dolphins are often encountered en route back past the Birkenhead rock that caused the sinking of the HMS Birkenhead in 1852.

Due to the weather conditions and shark activity, diving is not always possible. There are no guarantees as we are in the hands of Mother Nature. In the event of “No Shark sightings” you will be given a voucher to enable you to do a 2nd trip free of charge according to conditions on the voucher. Sorry no refunds.

Back on Terra Firma, a three course lunch awaits you in our farm style dining room. Your hostess on duty will present you with an Educational Diving DVD featuring footage of Jackie’s past encounters with this beautiful animal, as well as a signed certificate to proof that you have “Been there” and “Done that” in Gansbaai, South Africa.

En route back to Cape Town the driver will stop in Hermanus or De Kelders for Whale watching in season, (June to December) Expected time of arrival back in Cape Town will be between 17h00 and 18h00.
